How this year’s twelve days of Christmas have brought my awareness to our own annus horribilis in 2009, but have also helped me to focus and be vigilant to the world around me.
Love this, Hilary. I'm wondering too what other omens you noticed... As you know, I'm thinking a lot about talking or writing to my ancestors at the moment... I love how you think it through in this beautiful piece.
Thank you, Sophie. I noticed lots of feelings - and tensions - and lots of thoughts arising from being near the sea in Ireland over the new year. Before we left for Ireland, our electricity went off. It was in the morning - the day we were packing to go away. We had to be very creative in our preparations but, at the same time, there were no modern distractions and I wrote early in the morning by candlelight. The lack of electricity brought with it a strange feeling, and reminder of, the importance of space and what it can provide for us.
I also heard someone mention that you don’t always belong where you originally land - another nod to the pull of our ancestors and where we want to go in life.
There were so many other things: geese supporting each in flight, crashing waves, a sign in big letters screaming, ‘Believe,’ hearing seagulls so far inland ... all aligning with my thoughts at the time.
Thanks Sara! Yes, slowing down the mind opens us up to so many things we would have otherwise not noticed. Put a note in your diary for next year. And definitely keep the legs turning! X
Another great read Hilary. And what were the chances of parking next to your previous vehicle? I love the idea of the Celtic Omen Days and slowing down (my mind that is, I’m not letting the legs slow down this year!)

I loved the act of just ‘noticing’ x
Wonderful! Carry all of this with you into February. It sounds like an auspicious year! ✨
